Mechanical Engineering is concerned with the design, construction, installation, commissioning and operation of industries, power stations, engines, and machines. It is one of the oldest and the broadest disciplines of engineering. Mechanical Engineering curriculum will continue to lead the world by making significant contributions in manufacturing, energy generation, transportation, waste management, health and environment.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Aims & Objectives

 

  • To provide the best available basic knowledge and day to day innovations to the student community.
  • To produce skilled manpower of well trained chemists, capable of taking up positions in various socio economic sectors in the country.
  • To stimulate scientific curiosity and general intellectual objectives aimed at producing matured and conscious citizens.
  • To support other higher learning education such as Biology, Physics, Zoology, Geology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Veterinary and others through the supervision of supportive and minor courses.
  • To acquire an ability to think rationally and critically and to apply the knowledge of chemistry in making judgments and solving day to day problems.
  • To become aware of the social, economic, environmental and technological application of chemistry and show concern for the environment.
  • To educate the students with the capacity to solve real problems and provide leadership that lead to the economic and social transformation of the country.
  • To impart sufficient qualitative/quantitative analytical and synthetic chemical knowledge skills to our students to be able to analyze to solve real world problems.

The department of chemistry was established in 2003. the department has well qualified and dedicated faculty members with good infrastructure. The faculty members are actively involved in teaching, guiding and counselling the students of all the branches of engineering at I & II semester levels. It is also well equipped with instruments like UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, flamephotometer,conductometers, pH meters, potentiometers,electronic balance etc. The department has been recognised as research center by VTU.

Aims

  • Provide opportunities for scientific study and creativity within a global context which will stimulate and challenge students
  • Provide a body of knowledge, methods and techniques which characterize science and technology
  • Develop an ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesize scientific information
  • Develop experimental and investigative scientific skills
  • Encourage an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and the overarching nature of the scientific method.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate the personal skills of cooperation, perseverance and responsibility appropriate for effective scientific investigation and problem solving.
  • Demonstrate the manipulative skills necessary to carry out scientific investigations with precision and safety.

The department of Physics at GSSSIETW came into existence in the year 2003. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty dedicated to teach Engineering Physics. Physics lab is equipped with sophisticated instruments. The department has been consistently achieving 90% and above results in Physics theory and lab. The faculty encourages students to update their scientific knowledge on the latest inventions in frontier areas of Physics.

 


 

LAB DETAILS

We have major equipments in the department like Spectrometer, Diffraction grating, Travelling microscope, Ultrasonic interferometer experimental set up, transistor characteristics experimental set up, charging & discharging of a capacitor set up, Function generator, Power supply, Fermi energy experimental set up.

The physics department recently organized a special lecture dated 21-09-13 to enrich the knowledge of the teaching faculty and student community on ‘Women in Science & Engineering Education’ delivered by Prof. B A Patil, Founder President, Think and ink science foundation, Bangalore.

The Department of Mathematics at GSSSIETW came into existence in the year 2003. The Mathematics department is managed by well qualified senior faculties with two Associate Professors and five Assistant Professors. The subject is common for all the branches,in addition to Engineering Mathematics, the department also handles Discrete Mathematical Structures,Graph Theory and Combinatorics related to Computer Science and Information Science Engineering. The department has been achieving good results in mathematics and also in Discrete Mathematical Structures,Graph Theory. We educate the students with the capacity to solve real world problems that lead to the economic and technological transformation of the country, by providing sufficient qualitative knowledge and Mathematical skills which is required in a wide range of careers.

About Research Center:

Research in chemistry is essential for developing new methods to address various qualitative and quantitative aspects of the biological, environmental, clinical, and applied sciences and to provide the tools for chemical analysis of living cells, biologically active molecules, metabolites, and various materials at trace and ultratrace levels. As a result, there is great demand for well-educated analytical chemists in the industry, academia, and government. The chemistry research center was established in 2012, which is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The research center is equipped with:

COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING PG

Computer Science and Engineering was instituted in the establishment year 2003 and is having present intake of UG as 120. The department has full fledged staff structure who are highly qualified, experienced and dedicated. The department has all required labs fully developed with necessary softwares, network systems and high band internet facility on all the systems.

The PG course in CS&E was introduced in the academic year 2013-14 with an intake of 18 students. This PG course aims at the studies of advanced subjects of Computer Science course which will be helpful for academics and industries. There are lab setups as per the corporate standards and the department has collaborations with giant industries like IBM, Infosys, INTEL with which there is a continuous exposure of students to a corporate standards. The department network is connected to e-Journal access. Apart from this there is a full fledged departmental library, Wi-Fi and NPTEL digital library access facility in the campus. Placement training, industrial exposure, attending and organizing conferences, academic activities and campus recruitment are the special features.

The department of IT was established in the year 2006 with the intake of 60 students. The department offers Bachelor Degree programme (BE) in IT. The department caters to the ever challenging needs of technical excellence in all areas of electronics & Instrumentation Engineering with a perfect blend of industrial exposure, coupled with good technical base. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide adequate opportunities for students to learn and innovate.
